Ganges river
Historical information
The early Vedic civilization did not attach importance to the Ganges, paying more attention to other rivers. However, later this reservoir began to be mentioned more and more often in scriptures. Throughout its existence, the territory of the Ganges Valley was dominated by various peoples and rulers, including Muslims and the British.
Architecture
The Ganges River Valley can be considered one of the most densely populated places on the planet. Many cities in India and Bangladesh are located here. Two large dams have been built on the river.
Visiting rules
Different sections of the river have different rules. Access to some is closed. Please note that it is not uncommon for human remains to be sent floating down rivers. To avoid such a “surprise”, we recommend swimming and swimming only in specially designated areas.
Excursions
The Ganges River in its different sections is suitable for various excursions. You can swim through some of its sections, calmly contemplating the beauty of nature, and some are suitable for rafting. It is suitable for swimming almost all year round. There are steep rapids. Safari trips along the Ganges are extremely popular.
Myths and legends
Hindus believe that the Ganges is a sacred river that came down from heaven. She is personified as the female deity Ganga, which is mentioned in the Vedas, Ramayana and Mahabharata. Its waters are considered to have a sacred and healing character. Many pilgrims come to India to take a bath in the Ganges. The best time to wash and bathe is at dawn. It is believed that it can atone for sins and cure diseases.
