Sekumpul Waterfall

Description

It should be taken into account that it is very humid near the waterfall - even at a distance of 30 meters you can get completely wet from water splashes and you often have to wipe the lenses of your equipment (stock up with a towel and dry cloth wipes for your equipment, or even better - a protective cover). But how nice it is to feel the long-awaited coolness after a long road and descent! In sunlight, water splashes create rainbow reflections that look simply amazing. You can swim in the cool waters of the waterfall. But be careful on slippery rocks!

An interesting feature of the Sekumpul waterfall complex is that after rain, different tributaries become multi-colored: one turns brown, and the second remains transparent. This happens because the waterfalls originate from different sources.

The virgin nature makes an indelible impression on tourists. It seems as if you have gone back in time, and there were no millions of years of evolution. Accordingly, there is no tourist infrastructure here - there are only a few gazebos on the way up, and you can meet local residents selling coffee and fruit.

In some places, tourists will have to walk along narrow paths, wade near cliffs, wade across the river - the journey to the waterfall can be called slightly extreme and difficult, but the amazing views are worth it.

Help

The waterfall was opened for tourists in 2010, but out of seven waterfalls only two are accessible to visit to this day. The complex is included in the natural list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Landscape

The most remarkable thing on the way to the waterfalls is the opportunity to admire the pristine rice fields, where there are absolutely no tourists. Otherwise, the area is quite typical for Bali, but also practically untouched by humans.

Visiting rules

Entrance to the waterfall territory is paid, about 125000 rupees. It is better to visit the waterfalls during the rainy season (from April to October) - then they are fullest and, moreover, colorful. The best time to visit is 9:00 – 15:00; in the evening it gets dark quickly in the jungle.

Excursions

The guide's services are included in the price of visiting the waterfalls, but he acts more like a guide. Standard excursion tours in Bali do not include Sekumpul Waterfall. It is better to book an individual tour of the island’s waterfalls or rent a bike or car.

Myths and legends

Local residents do not associate any legends with this waterfall. However, Sekumpul Falls has another feature - it is sometimes called Lemuki Falls. The double name of the waterfall is associated with its territorial affiliation. The waterfall is located between the villages of Lemuki and Sekumpul, but it is still a little closer to the first, so it has every right to bear the name Lemuki. But the enterprising residents of the second village equipped a convenient descent to the natural attraction, making it easier to get to the waterfall from the village of Sekumpul, and among tourists the waterfall began to bear the same name as the second village - Sekumpul.

Getting there

It is not possible to get to Sekumpul Falls by public transport; the nearest point where there is a bus service is Singaraji. From here (or from other nearby settlements - Ubud, Kuta, Denpasar) you can get to the waterfall by motorcycle, car or scooter. Travel time will range from 30-40 minutes from Singaraja to 3-4 hours from Kuta. You can stay in the nearby villages - Sekumpul or Lemuki. The path directly to the waterfall complex will have to be covered on foot along a forest path - the road is about two kilometers.
