New airport opened in Hyderabad
Hyderabad's new Rajiv Gandhi Airport was inaugurated on March 23. It is located in Shamshabad, 25 kilometers from the city center and replaced the closed old airport. One of the few modern ones in India, the new airport is capable of serving up to 12 million passengers a year. It also houses a hotel and a medical center. A KLM pilot on a flight to Hyderabad (his first since the opening) refused to land at the new airport, saying he had no idea about it.
