Discovery of ancient gardens of the royal dynasty in the vicinity of the Taj Mahal
To visit a place of fabulous beauty, you need to spend an extra hour moving away from the mausoleum-mosque. One of the gardens is named Mehtab Bagh, translated meaning Moon Garden, and the other is Itimad-ud-Daula, or Garden of the Tomb. The latter received this name because it was built by Empress Nur Jahan as a tomb for her ancestors.
Four years ago, the World Monuments Fund, with the support of the Indian Archaeological Survey, set to work beautifying the surrounding area Taj Mahal. Initially, on the banks of the Yamuna there were two luxurious parks with unusual plants, but over time, the former grandeur disappeared. The hard work of the masters of their craft created a small miracle. Now locals and tourists can visit the past, if not actually, then stroll through the royal gardens in bloom and fragrance.
In addition to reviving the parks, plans included the creation of a new hydraulic system. The addition allows you to completely immerse yourself in the pristine atmosphere of the royal gardens of the Mongol Empire, lost over the years. There were some innovations that could add relevance to the idea born in antiquity: a tourist center appeared in Itimad-ud-Daulah.
What is known about the former gardens is that their creation dates back to approximately the 16th century. Viewing the scenery was reserved for royalty. Today, a small part of such parks has survived to modern times. Empires and kingdoms changed, and with the passing of one or another dynasty, their palaces and their attendant luxury disappeared. In addition, in recent decades, the development of territories has been intensively developing, so for the sake of profit, many do not spare the historical heritage.
Tourists can visit the recreated gardens for a small price - 300 rupees (in rubles from 270 to 280 monetary units). In addition to immersion in an atmosphere saturated
delicate aromas of flowers, visitors will be able to see the Taj Mahal monument,
located on the other side of the Yamuna.
